17th of March: St. Patrick’s Day Lecture with the Alumni

On St Patrick’s Day, Dr. Joost Augusteijn will give a lecture on the significance of the 1916 Easter Rising in Irish history. This is an interesting time to examine the subject, as 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising, when a group of Irish rebels, led by Patrick Pearse, proclaimed the Irish Republic. Although the rising was soon quelled by the British, it ultimately led to Ireland’s independence from Britain.

The lecture is open to the public and will be followed by drinks and an optional buffet dinner, accompanied by traditional Irish rebel songs. Sign up here.

The Lecture will be held in the Amsterdamse Academische Club (Oudezijds Achterburgwal 235) and more information about the event can be found here, here and here.

The doors will open at 17:00,
the lecture will begin 17:30,
and the lecture will end 18:30.
Afterwards there’s an optional dinner with drinks accompanied by traditional Irish songs.
